Contest Overview

The TV anime Samurai Champloo, which first aired in 2004, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, we are holding a contest to create fresh Samurai Champloo content!
Participants may use the anime footage provided for this contest in any way. Please combine your edited footage with the designated audio to create a new Samurai Champloo video!
There are two categories: the Shorts category and the Music Video category, both of which can be entered via YouTube.

Samurai Champloo is a TV anime directed by Shinichirō Watanabe that aired in 2004. This anime combines the setting of a historical drama with elements of 2000s culture and a soundtrack by hip-hop artists such as Nujabes, Tsutchie, Fat Jon, and FORCE OF NATURE, creating a true “champloo” (meaning “blended together”) work.
The music, in particular, captivated not only anime fans but also hip-hop enthusiasts, and it continues to garner high praise both domestically and internationally as a timeless masterpiece.

Shorts Category

Make Samurai Champloo go viral on YouTube Shorts!
Create a short video by editing the anime footage and upload it to YouTube Shorts with the hashtag #champlooVC in the title.

■Prizes
Prizes (max. 5 winners): Gift cards worth US$300
*Winners will be selected by director Shinichirō Watanabe and FlyingDog staff.
*Please note that fewer than five winners may be selected.

■Participation Eligibility
Participants must be 18 or older. Apart from that, the contest is open to all, regardless of nationality or whether you are a professional or amateur.

■Entry Deadline
23:59 on August 31, 2024 (JST)

●How to Enter

1. Fill in the required items (name [nickname optional], email) and download the materials. Please use the official audio for the sound source.
・Video: Upon entering, select and download the footage you would like to use. (The footage will be provided without audio.)
・Audio: Select a song from the official audio on FlyingDog’s YouTube channel and cut it using YouTube’s Remix feature.
2. After completing the video, post it on your YouTube channel with the hashtag #champlooVC.
3. Fill in the required items (name [nickname optional], email, video URL) on the entry page to complete your submission.

Music Video Category

Create a fresh Samurai Champloo music video with innovative visuals!
Select your favorite scenes from the anime (all 26 episodes) and freely edit them to create a music video. Once your music video is ready, upload it to YouTube with the hashtag #champlooVC.

■Prizes
・FlyingDog Award (one winner): US$1,000 cash prize
*Winner will be selected by Director Shinichirō Watanabe and FlyingDog staff.

・Community Award (one winner): US$1,000 cash prize
*Winner will be chosen through a popularity vote from among nominees selected by Director Shinichirō Watanabe and FlyingDog staff.

Additionally, the winning works will be recognized as official Samurai Champloo music videos and posted to the FlyingDog channel!
